IRDANA Advice is a consultancy firm in the field of the environment and sustainable development, with special focus on the relationship between gender and environment.
Women stand in the front line in terms of poverty, yet provide invaluable contributions to sustaining communities around the world and managing the earth’s biodiversity and natural resources. Despite their role and know-how, women’s contribution is often undervalued and ignored. What’s more, women are uniquely vulnerable to environmental degradation, especially in less developed countries.
IRDANA Advice endeavours to highlight the important role that women play in sustainable development. It does this through analysis of and drawing attention to gender aspects of environmental issues, by building gender capacity, and by promoting women’s active participation in environmental decision making and management. We are based in Malden, The Netherlands; director/founder is Irene Dankelman MSc.
We can draw on extensive knowledge and a wide network in the area of gender and environment.
Irene Dankelman has worked for NGOs, universities, the United Nations, and government bodies for over 30 years. She is advisor to several international initiatives on gender and sustainable development.
We give trainings and courses on gender and the environment for Masters degree students at Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands), Saxion Hogeschool (Netherlands), Wageningen University (Netherlands), and the UN-mandated graduate school of peace and conflict studies University for Peace (Costa Rica).
